Client: WHG (Walsall Housing Group)
Contract Value: £2.8 – £3.0 Million
Project Duration: 1 Year
Description: EWIS was appointed to deliver a comprehensive retrofit and energy efficiency improvement programme across approximately 89–100 residential properties for WHG under the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) and ECO4 schemes. The project involved the management and coordination of multiple trades, including External Wall Insulation (EWI), Internal Wall Insulation (IWI), scaffolding, rendering, roofing works, and enabling works. The Soltherm External Wall Insulation System was specified and installed to improve thermal performance, reduce energy consumption, and enhance the external appearance of the properties. Through careful planning and collaboration with WHG, EWIS successfully coordinated all elements of the works to ensure efficient delivery and minimal disruption to residents.
Outcome/Impact: The programme has delivered significant improvements in the energy efficiency and comfort of residents’ homes, helping WHG achieve its decarbonisation objectives while reducing fuel poverty across the housing stock. The installation of the Soltherm EWI system, together with associated retrofit measures, has enhanced the thermal performance and external appearance of the properties, creating a more modern and sustainable housing portfolio. The project has provided long-term value through reduced energy demand, lower maintenance requirements, and improved resident satisfaction.
Resources Used:
- Dedicated project management team overseeing all workstreams and stakeholder engagement.
- Experienced installation teams specialising in Soltherm EWI systems and retrofit works.
- Scaffolding, rendering, roofing, and enabling work contractors coordinated under a single delivery programme.
- In-house commercial and technical teams managing procurement, quality assurance, compliance, and programme delivery.
Performance Measures:
- Delivery of works in accordance with SHDF and ECO4 funding requirements.
- Achievement of targeted energy efficiency improvements across all properties.
Successful coordination of multiple trades and subcontractors within programme timescales. - Compliance with manufacturer specifications, quality assurance standards, and health and safety requirements.
- Positive client and resident feedback throughout project delivery.
Challenges and Solutions: The project required the coordination of numerous workstreams across occupied residential properties while maintaining programme deadlines and minimising disruption to residents. EWIS implemented a structured delivery programme, ensuring close communication between site teams, subcontractors, and WHG representatives. Detailed planning and phased scheduling enabled efficient installation of the Soltherm EWI system alongside roofing, rendering, scaffolding, and internal works. Regular progress reviews and proactive problem-solving ensured that programme targets were maintained while delivering a high-quality finished product.
